Russia sues Meta
A change in the 'hate speech policy' for Facebook and Instagram users was introduced on Thursday in several other countries, including Russia, Ukraine and Poland.
Reuters quoted an internal email from Facebook's parent company Meta as saying. According to the news, as per to the new policy, users will also be able to post wishing for the death of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
A criminal case has been filed against Meta in Russia In this regard.
According to Reuters, Russian government prosecutors have asked the court to declare the US based social media company an "extremist organization" in their case.
Russia, meanwhile, has blocked access to Instagram, another Meta platform, the country's regulator informed.
Russia's intelligence service has commented that “ a criminal case has been filed…. This is concerned to the illegitimate call of the Facebook and Instagram’s parent company- Meta against the people of Russia to kill and and terrorize.”
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Pskov said: "We hope that this will not happen. And if that is true, then the highest decision must be made to rein in the company's activities."
